Microsoft Hotmail Blocking Yahoo! Mail as Spam?

This is a joke. But all too real. Microsoft meet Yahoo!. Yahoo! meet Microsoft. Now play nice.

This is revealing. I am shocked! Horrified. How could it be? Microsoft is screwing with people? Microsoft is using unfair practices to force compliance and adoption to sub-standard crap? Or perhaps Microsoft in its never ending brilliance is just confused and doesn’t even know what it is doing wrong. That is probably it.

This is the company now led by this sane person isn’t it?

this is not true, the hotmail address i trying to reach works for me and I need to forward messages. I guess she will have to change from hotmail to get her instructions.

  3. David Dalka November 7, 2007 at 3:12 pm #

It was true at the time I did this. I’m happy that it is working for you now.

I would really like to see Yahoo! and Hotmail to work together to prevent in the future.

  4. Matt November 7, 2007 at 5:41 pm #

    This is absolutely true.

I have friends with Yahoo accounts that are having all e-mail to my hotmail account blocked with the same message as posted above.

Does anyone know what is going on between these two companies?

  5. reject November 12, 2007 at 9:25 pm #

Could it be the advertising text with the links that get attached to yahoos emails after the user sends it are being blocked on security grounds?Ironic, since hotmail now does the same thing to it’s outgoing mail.
Is there anyway to get them off the emails to test this theory, maybe by paying to get them taken off or something?

  6. Dacha November 14, 2007 at 4:14 pm #

This is so true. I was wondering when it’s gonna happen, I was planning like 2015 year or something, but this is outrages. No more Yahoo mails will be delivered to Hotmail or Live mail. Why?

He he, you will need to pay soon if you want spam free or what you had 2-3 years ago.

  7. Maus November 16, 2007 at 6:25 am #

hotamil also blocks mails from gmx-mail with the same text, I’ll just stop using hotmail. This is simply stupid…one really wonders…

  8. Hi November 16, 2007 at 6:51 pm #

OMG. THIS HAPPENED TO ME TODAY! It happened SEVERAL times!

I’m so upset. I’m REALLY disappointed with WLH. They are just REALLY ignorant. What’s wrong with my IP address? I’ve never spammed!

  9. Alex November 18, 2007 at 5:53 am #

This is unbelievable – I cannot send email to my friend because I have message as above. I dont have any other contact with her and this is urgent. What the hell is going on? Is there any way to send this email or I have to change my email address??

  10. Zac November 21, 2007 at 6:57 am #

They are now blocking also web.de.

Yesterday I wrote a friend. Today he replied, but I could not reply him any longer.

I have a second account on web.de, and that’s blocked too.

    I have found a troubleshooting page from hotmail/windowz ( http://postmaster.live.com/Troubleshooting.aspx )
where they provide a link to contact hotmail assistance:
    https://support.msn.com/eform.aspx?productKey=edfsmsbl&ct=eformts

  11. lola November 22, 2007 at 12:00 pm #

Yep. It’s happened to me a bunch of times. About a month ago, I posted a question about this on a forum and it was suggested that my hotmail friend mark my contact as “safe.” That seemed to have worked for a while, until about 2 weeks ago, when messages sent to him were blocked again. Shouldn’t this fall under some kind of federal law against mail tampering? This is solicited mail that hotmail willfully refuses to deliver. email users unite!!

  12. Suzy November 23, 2007 at 11:17 pm #

This is very true – all my replies to friends using hotmail addresses are being rejected because I am using Yahoo. Microsoft stink. I am telling all my friends not to use hotmail and use either yahoo or gmail.I hope it back fires on MSN.

It’s true alright. I was so alarmed when I got this message:

Has happened to me 4 times this week. My questionable emails concern info to the cubscout troop about meetings. Really stuff worth blocking. Glad I do not use hotmail myself. I am meerely inconvenienced by their inability to function properly!

This needs to be sorted out. It’s ridiculous.

  16. chris December 1, 2007 at 5:44 am #

i have been experiencing the same ‘sender was rejected’ when i send from gmx to hotmail.

each time i’ve sent a question to WLH via the link below

    http://support.live.com/eform.aspx?productKey=wlmail&page=wlsupport_home_options_form_byemail&ct=eformts

.. . and to their credit they have allowed gmx.net within 12 hrs. however, 2 days later i get returned emails and have to submit another request. this has happened 3 times now.

this may not be a permanent solution but i think if everyone uses this link, WLH will begin to realise that their blocking policy of certain domains like this just isn’t a workable solution

I’ve been having this problem sending emails to hotmail from my comcast email as well…

  18. Jacobin M December 8, 2007 at 10:43 pm #

I swear, It HAS to do with the new hotmail upgrade. One of my friends just upgraded his hotmail and emailed to tell me and when I replied I got that message. At first I thought my computer has a bot virus but I don’t do any pirating (of course…hehe). But I checked all of my email accounts and none of them were individually blocked so… it probably has to do with the recent up…downgrade.

  19. Bill December 10, 2007 at 5:52 pm #

I use Hotmail and Yahoo mail. I receive things on my Yahoo and I send to me wife, who by the way is here in the same house on another computer. She uses Hotmail. My Yahoo messages to her are blocked by Hotmail, and Yahoo sends back a message telling me I am “Dirt” basically, sending wrong material…spam and the like.
I think it is time for people to realize it is time to DUMP all to do with Microsoft and get on with life without being influenced by a GREEDY corporation ! ( And that is what it is). I have already sent messages to all my friends that I am now using Yahoo, and if they want e-mails from me to use Yahoo !
Why doesn’t the US Grow up and see what this is really all about ! Greed is ruining the world, and only because people allow it to happen .
No big deal….once there was no internet….now….people panic because they are a victim of greed from a greedy company ! Dismiss them….simple isn’t it ?

  20. mee too December 12, 2007 at 6:46 am #

happened to me too. get your act together microsoft.

  21. FirstVlad December 14, 2007 at 6:26 am #

Hotmail s.ucks big time. It’s blocking e-mail from Road Runner also. Tell your friends to stop using Hotmail. Period. Whatta gas.

  22. Brad December 24, 2007 at 12:46 am #

Yeah, funny business with yahoo and hotmail..even if you put a yahoo address in your “allowed senders” list on hotmail, your yahoo emails wont get through….strange….hmmmmm

  23. beyond January 6, 2008 at 2:14 pm #

Same problem with Austrian GMX adresses today. Thanks MS!

I am hating Hotmail and Microsoft.

  26. Audrey March 21, 2008 at 3:31 pm #

I use Hotmail, Yahoo & Gmail…all for different things (personal correspondence, contest entries, and business), and I must say this is really irritating. I also upgraded my Hotmail, and there are lines through all the email graphics when I get them…even ones sent from Microsoft. I hate this! I’m not even using the Hotmail account any more. I prefer my Yahoo, but I can’t send mail to my sister who is using Hotmail!

  27. Elva April 14, 2008 at 10:11 pm #

It is so annoying, microsoft! Hope this greedy company go to hell!

  28. Judy May 1, 2008 at 11:07 am #

My Mom lives in North Carolina. I live in Pennsylvania. She is hearing impaired so email was a great way to stay in touch. Well, Hotmail is rejecting my comcast account…again! Very frustrating…and I can’t even call her to help her set up a different email account. grrrr…
I think in order to stop some of the SPAM they put a block on the domain instead of the address they were trying to block…

    Hello all

it all happend to me today
the worse thing is my brother is in hospital
and he is in coma , so I keep in contact with his friends to inform about his status
but now not many hotmail acount’s I can not send a email , I am thinking to get a lawyer becourse this is not normal to block people without any reason or to inform them
looks like Hotmail does not care about privacy but only care about spam

    Regards MB

  30. Dick May 19, 2008 at 8:12 pm #

Just a philosophical question here : Who cares about hotmail? Why do we all have hotmail? Bill Gates says , he’s the only one who can make money on the internet not you, lowly peasants, how dare you.

There are dozens of free emails some with no adds, with all the features and more. I’ve got one its call inbox.com

Wake up people ditch Bill and at the same time you can switch to Linux.

I am also having my Road Runner e-mails blocked by Hotmail and Live. My daugher is out of the country for two months and our only form of communication has been via e-mail. Unfortunately, I have a Road Runner account and hers is through Live. My e-mails have been delayed for days and others rejected completely and no one seems to be able to help. VERY frustrating!!

  32. Ginny June 10, 2008 at 11:34 am #

I just sent an email to a friend of mine with a hotmail account who I’ve been emailing regularly since Jan/Feb of this year. Just got the same message everyone else has been getting saying I’m now blocked because I am a spammer. I can’t even send email to my own persosonal hotmail account.

I just filled out the form and sent it in. Is this a new thing? Is there anything MSN can do sort of on a macro scale to solve the problems, as opposed to handling everything indivdually?

  33. Jayson June 24, 2008 at 7:03 pm #

    Hello all,

This has been happening to me for years, and I am so tired of it, childish games with our business.

When client tell me they sent something and I don’t have it, the first sad question is, do you have Yahoo? This is sad.

I am trying to find a way around this, instead of using my other email account.

thanks all, peace and love to you all

  34. Heather November 6, 2008 at 2:34 pm #

I’ve been dealing with this for years as well… and it isn’t just yahoo that they block. My server is Gate.

msn & hotmail both reject emails from one of my main accounts. Not all the time, which makes it even more frustrating.
Soooo many people have .msn & .hotmail accounts.
    I don’t understand why.
And I’ve done the microsoft support online and phone call thing. My server can’t do anything about it. UGH!

  35. Markus March 31, 2009 at 8:39 am #

Well, same thing here. GMX is also getting blocked. Looks like there are some real geniuses at work at Microsoft, trying out a thing they have NO CLUE about: Security. Microsoft practises security by sledge hammer, meaning that they just block everyone or block all access to something, which if of course very secure (and not to mention totally idiotic and unusable)

Please go fix this problem ASAP, you are disrupting tons of legitimate e-mail traffic all around the world. It is important for people to know that the problem is on Hotmails (MS) side.

  36. Karla October 6, 2009 at 3:40 pm #

I am with a company that I pay for my internet service and i can’t even send correspondence to my CUSTOMER. That i’ve sent several other e-mails to.

  39. Hotmail SUCKS! September 1, 2010 at 3:04 pm #

“Windows Live Hotmail” is flagging as spam any emails from my Yahoo account now, that I am sending IN REPLY to their own subcribers who are CONTACTING ME. As far as I can tell HOTMAIL/WINDOWS LIVE HOTMAIL just doesn’t want to accept emails from yahoo period. And they are screwing their own customers in the process as I cannot answer their own queries.

  40. ldekay November 17, 2010 at 9:16 pm #

I’m having the same problem from email addresses that are not gmail or other hotmail competitors. As with others above, I used to be able to get emails through but they are suddenly blocked. These are personal messages, not in any way interpreted as spam, and they are wanted by the recipient, so the block has come from another sector. My provider has said blocks like this are implemented when a couple of hotmail users report a sender as a spammer. Seems a rather draconian response, especially if it affects other users who don’t agree with the block. I always assumed the spam block was for my personal use, not that it would be applied system-wide in the case of non-sexual and non-personally-offensive email.

  41. Maurice A November 30, 2011 at 1:31 am #

I would love for hotmail to block all the f*******ing yahoo sites .I am so sick and tired of all the spam and scam and UK / african BS email ….. If I must be the only one out there getting this stuff as I read the responses here.. Yahoo spam is endless…….!!! And yahoo never responds to complaints other than to direct you to some stupid web site and ask you “was this helpful” idiots…….You ahould have the personal choice to block an entire domain if you decide to ….but unfortunately I still recieve the same bastard spam emails from various Yahoo domains …..
