Nice post, I agree with a lot of what you have to say and especially that last paragraph from Peter. The scary thing to me isn't that government wants to have more control, that's only natural.

What does scare me is that more and more people want the government to take control.

I don't think regulation is a good thing, let's hope things don't get shaken up too much.

Have fun,
Sean

Dave, first time Ive been on this site - I like your thoughts on this.

Unfortunately there are a lot of crooks out there but the internet is a huge monster but ultimately each consumer must do a certain amount of due diligence before purchasing anything if they do not know the seller as with any business.

We are fortunate that on the net Google search engines make it easy to find out if someone has had bad experiences with a product vendor or not so the process of being wise and looking after ones self should be relativeky simple. Especially given the high ranking Google places on blogs and forums.

I sometimes get the feeling that we are moving more and more into the era of governments wanting to protect us from everything thus taking away peoples ability to think for themselves.

Well, FTC regulations may somehow reduce scam ads in the internet. However, it is really the discretion of the consumer to decide whether to believe or not to believe in a certain ad. It is also advisable to consumers to be aware of the fraudulent activities online. This will help them avoid themselves to be scammed. It's good that there are internet forums and blogs like this where internet users can read past experiences of the actual consumers on a particular online business website.

Great thoughts, Dave!

Note that a lot of this, to me, looks like the assault on "children's programming as advertising" back in the 70s and 80s. This always reminds me of the Simpsons, where "Action Figure Man" had an episode nominated for an award called "How to Buy Action Figure Man."

And aren't all tweets from folks like @guykawasaki just, really, ads that support the Guy Kawasaki brand?
