David, your post is spot-on and reminds me of an online marketing for retail event I attended recently where the offline retailers, in the main, demonstrated their blissful ignorance and lack of interest in the raft of points you make. It seems to go beyond motivation - there needs to be some compelling fear or event which will shake their mental models into embracing the new media.

David,

Your talk at the GSB Marketing Roundtable yesterday was great. You made a comment about most online transactions ending up offline, and that this represented an enormous opportunity. Do you mind elaborating on that and describing the nature of the problem?

Thanks,
Raza

With the changing strategies of competition and the economic uncertainty, I still can not understand the resistance by many companies and managers to social media and interaction on line. Looking at it as free advertising and marketing, why not try it, why not adjust?

Your post was full of great information and I enjoyed reading it.
